# Sound credits

Every recording here is someone else's work, used under a licence that asks to
be credited. Crediting it is both the condition of using it and a fair thing to
do, so the list is kept here in full.

## Owl

`owl-flyby.mp3` and `owl-landing.mp3` are both cut from one recording of a
tawny owl (_Strix aluco_).

`owl-flyby` is the short "ke-wick" contact call. `owl-landing` is the full
territorial song: a short note, then the tremolo that settles into a long hoo.

## Woodland

`bird-1.mp3` to `bird-4.mp3` are four short phrases from one morning recording
in Bourne Woods, Lincolnshire.

## What was changed

CC BY-SA asks that modifications be stated. Every file here was trimmed from a
longer recording, high-pass filtered to remove wind and handling rumble, gently
denoised, level-matched, faded at both ends, and encoded to mono MP3.

Because they are adaptations of CC BY-SA 4.0 recordings, **these edited files
are themselves licensed [CC BY-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0)**.
That applies to the audio files in this folder, not to the site's source code.

## Everything else

All other sound on the site — the flute and pluck phrases, the wind, the
rustle, and the interface sounds — is synthesised in the browser by
`src/lib/sound/engine.ts`. There is no recording behind it and nothing to
credit.
